Refresh Your Piano Studio This Summer!
Summer lessons often require a slightly different approach. Students are thinking about vacations, camps, relaxation, and fun, which makes this the perfect time to refresh your studio with engaging and imaginative materials.
Here are a few summer resources from Music Teacher Spark that may help make your lesson planning easier this season:
☀️ Practice Logs
I typically print fresh practice logs at the beginning of each month. There’s space for assignments, notes, and goals, making communication with students and parents much smoother.
One thing that has helped my studio tremendously is placing practice logs inside student binders. It keeps everything organized, easy to access, and a little harder to mysteriously disappear 😭🎹
Summer Splash has quickly become one of the best-selling resources in my shop for a reason!
This 13-page printable pack is filled with beginner-friendly summer activities students genuinely enjoy. It’s especially wonderful for newer students and helps lessons feel fresh, creative, and memorable throughout the season.
🎹 Summer Repertoire
I strongly believe students need imaginative and enjoyable pieces that keep them emotionally engaged with piano lessons.
Here are a few favorites to add to your summer studio repertoire:
🌴 Beach Towel(Primer Level)
A playful piece that helps build note-reading CDE confidence for preschool and primer students. Younger students especially love playing this one at the end of lessons. I highly recommend playing the duet accompaniment with your student to reinforce steady beat.
🌺 Garden Steps(Primer/Pre-Staff)
A gentle and pleasant finger exercise that reinforces intervals of 2nds in both hands. Wonderful for young beginners and even adult students. Includes a teacher duet as well.
☀️ Coconut Groove(Level 1+)
A tropical-inspired piece in Bass G and Treble G position that truly gives “vacation vibes.” Students and listeners may find themselves dancing to this rhythmic tune. 😆
🌊Waterslide(Elementary)
A fun and energetic piece in Bass C and Treble C position featuring playful lyrics while reinforcing legato and staccato technique.
✨ Also, don’t forget to explore The Glow Series, featuring early elementary pieces designed to feel expressive, engaging, and performance-friendly for developing students.
I hope these resources help make your summer lesson planning feel lighter, easier, and more inspiring this season. ☀️🎹🌴
Happy teaching,
Keturah
